Stylized Modern Kids’ Portraits

This simple project showcases your most cherished family photos in a clean and modern way.

Difficulty: Easy

Materials
(4) photos printed on ½" × 16" × 20" foam board
(4) ½" × 18" × 24" pieces of pine plywood
220-grit sandpaper
Black acrylic paint
Bowl of water
Paintbrushes
Gloves
Epoxy
Rags
Rope
Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Steps
  1. Check the edges of the plywood pieces and sand down any rough edges
  2. Mix one part black acrylic paint with two parts water to make a stain
  3. Add stain to wood with a paintbrush. Remove excess stain with a dry rag

  4. Since the plywood is not very wet, add dabs of epoxy glue to the board where the foam board will go. Add hot glue to the corners and back of the photo before placing it in the center of the board, leaving a 1" perimeter of wood around the photo

  5. Glue one end of the rope to the back of the wooden frame, at the top. Tightly wrap it around the photo three times

  6. Trim the excess rope, and glue the end to the back of the frame

  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 at the bottom of the frame
