Who says exercise can't be fun? There are plenty of ways to burn calories and have fun doing it. Plus, with the sun shining, it's the perfect time to find an activity you enjoy doing outside. So take a break from the gym and get moving with these fun ideas.

Make a Splash
Nothing beats a cool pool on a hot summer day. Plus, what better way to get a workout without breaking a sweat? The next time you take the kids to the pool, get some splash time in for yourself. Start a relay race with the kids or take turns diving for rings at the bottom of the pool. Have a competition to see who can tread water the longest. It's also the perfect time to get out of that aerobics studio and sign up for water aerobics.
Hit the Open Road
Lace up your hiking boots and be adventurous. Find a hiking trail at a local park and lose yourself in the peaceful scenery. If a sidewalk is all you have, then slip on those gym shoes and start walking. For a little extra energy, bring along headphones and walk to the beat of your favorite music.
Are You Game?
The kids are involved in summer sports, so who says you can't be, too? Look into joining a sand volleyball league. Or rally up your friends and neighbors on a Saturday afternoon for a softball match in the park. Not only will it be a blast, but some good old healthy competition is always a great stress reliever.
Back in the Saddle
Cycling is a great activity that'll keep you toned throughout the leg-baring season. Find a local bike trail and start pedaling. Or get the whole family involved and make a day of it. Plan your trip ahead of time and pick a couple of fun places to stop on the way. Bring lots of water and pack a small picnic to enjoy together. No time to plan? Just hop on your bike and cruise through the neighborhood with the kids.
Skater Girl
Back then it was roller rinks. Now it's rollerblading. All in all, rollerblading can deliver similar fitness benefits as running. So strap on those blades and groove to the sound of the Bee Gees. The world is your disco ball.
Practice Makes Perfect
Polish up your backhand by signing up for summer tennis lessons. Chasing that fuzzy yellow ball on the court can really get your heart pumping. Or perfect your putt by playing a round of golf. Rather than renting a golf cart, walk the 18 holes to burn off those extra calories.
Be a Kid Again
The dishes can wait. After dinner, get outside and play a fun game of hopscotch with the kids. And an intense game of tag in the backyard can be a good cardiovascular workout. Plus, the kids will love tagging you "it."
So get outside and start having some fun by trying one of these outdoor exercise ideas. Who knows? You may forget you're working out at all.
