How You Can Help
Doing what you can for the environment goes hand-in-hand with helping to protect wildlife, because without a healthy planet it can be difficult for wildlife to thrive. There are many simple things you can do today and every day to help protect the environment and participate in wildlife conservation. Here are just a few great examples:

  • 1 Bottle of Dawn = $1 to Save Wildlife!* Next time you’re at the grocery store, buy a bottle of Dawn® dishwashing liquid, register the bottle code online at www.dawnsaveswildlife.com, and one dollar* will be donated to save wildlife. The total donation of up to $500,000 will be split between The International Bird Rescue Research Center and The Marine Mammal Center. For 30 years, animal rescue groups and wildlife conservation organizations like these have used thousands of donated bottles of Dawn to save thousands of birds, otters, and seals by removing greasy oil without damaging delicate feathers and skin.
  • Dawn® Reuse and recycle plastic. Marine wildlife such as turtles, whales, and dolphins confuse plastic with food. When ingested, their digestive tracts may become blocked and they may die from starvation. Reduce the amount of plastic water bottles you buy and throw away by using faucet-mounted water filters or filter pitchers from PUR® to fill up reusable bottles or glasses.
  • Bring your own reusable canvas or cotton bag to the grocery store or to the mall to carry your purchases. You can also reuse paper or plastic bags to help reduce trash that ends up in landfills or in areas where wildlife lives.
  • Stay informed on current issues relating to environmental and wildlife protection and help educate friends and family. Use your voice by writing to government officials and supporting legislation that endorses environmental protection.
  • Support local parks by visiting with your family. Go on nature walks or bike rides. If you notice any trash left on trails or near bodies of water, try to make sure it makes it to the proper disposal area.
  • Practice kitchen conservation. Place cooking oils and fats in a sealed container in the garbage, instead of pouring them down the kitchen drain where they can end up in waterways. Conserve water by washing fruits and vegetables over a plastic tub and use the water collected to water plants.
  • Visit local aquariums to learn more about aquatic wildlife and teach your family about the importance of wildlife conservation.
  • Cut plastic rings. If purchasing beverages attached with "six pack" plastic rings, cut the rings apart before throwing it away. Birds, fish, and small land animals can get caught in the rings.

By keeping just a few simple ideas in mind, and making easy changes to your daily habits, you can do your part to contribute to environmental and wildlife conservation. And before you know it, you’ll be an Everyday Wildlife Champion.
