Your closet is full of multi-purpose organizers. The next time you open it, try looking at your hangers in new ways. Not just as wardrobe solutions—but as organizers that can come in handy throughout your home. Try our 6 simple ideas for repurposing hangers, and organize on a dime.

Turn a multi-tiered, swing-arm pants hanger into a suite for creative wrapping supplies. Since each rung is detachable, you can thread ribbon, string and spools of twine through the rungs, designating a different level for each material. Fill your station up, and you’ll be ready for holiday gift wrapping!

Cut strips of ribbon (at least 2” wide) and fold the end of each strip over the lower bar of your hanger, securing with fabric glue. Place your hanger on a doorknob or hook, and with clothespins or paperclips, hang greeting cards, invitations and sweet personal touches along the ribbons.

 Hanging Pockets

Tie a waist apron to a hanger for a set of grab-and-go hanging pockets. Fill one pocket with mending supplies and another with loose buttons, then place your organizer in a closet as an always-ready repair kit. Or try hanging your pockets on the knob of a kitchen cabinet and use them to store oven mitts and potholders. When dirty, remove the apron and toss it in the wash.

Look at clamping pants hangers as creative mounting devices. Organize and display the pages of a calendar, or use them to hang photos and artwork. Since they’re so easy to clamp and unclamp, switching in and out often-updated lists is a cinch.

 Unexpected Hooks

Unexpected Hooks

Drill holes into both ends of a wooden hanger, then follow our hanging and mounting instructions for using plastic wall anchors to attach your hanger to the wall. With the hook of your hanger spun outwards, drape reusable grocery bags, or even linens like bath towels.

Hangers can find new purpose in your closet too. Drape ties across a hanger’s lower bar and use clothespins or binder clips to hold them in place. With this same trick, organize scarves, mittens and belts. Prevent your hanger from tilting to one side by balancing the materials you attach.

Dusting is easier when you have the right tools. Designed specifically to clean in grooves and crevices, Swiffer® 360° Dusters traps and locks dust better than a feather duster.
