Keep hair accessories like headbands, hair ties, pins, clips and scarves accessible and organized with our 10 easy and creative ideas. The best part? You probably have many of the needed organizers already in your home.

10 Ways to Organize Hair Accessories

  1. Coffee Can: The outside of a large, clean coffee can is the perfect spot to stack headbands. Save the lid, and place other accessories inside. Spruce up the outside with decoupage or swatches of wallpaper and fabric.

Tip: Set your decorated coffee can on a lazy Susan in the bathroom with other hair tools like gel, hairspray and brushes for an easy all-in-one hair station.

  1. Ladder: Normally used to reach high spots, ladders make unexpected organizers, too. Purchase one on sale, or at a thrift store, then paint and decorate it. Use a rung to hang headscarves, headbands and bulkier hair accessories.
  1. Hanger: Thread hair goodies onto a multi-tiered, swing-arm pants hanger. Fill shower curtain o-rings with hair ties and slide them onto the hanger rungs, so when it’s travel time, you can easily grab a full ring and go.
  1. Pegboard: These organizing gems hold everything from hooks and wire baskets to shelves and bins, so it’s the perfect solution for organizing all sizes and varieties of hair accessories.
  1. Hanging Shoe Organizer: A shoe organizer has handy pockets for holding all varieties of hair accessories. Use it to store hair products, plus cooled hair dryers and curling irons, too.

  1. Boxes: Instead of tossing leftover shipping and packaging boxes, cut the cardboard into wide strips and slide hair ties over them. Liven up the color with felt, or cover the strips with colorful contact paper.
  1. Magnets: Hang magnetic hooks inside your medicine cabinet to hold fabric hair accessories, or hang magnetic strips inside of a cabinet to keep stray bobby pins and barrettes in one place.

Tip: Purchase affordable magnetic spice containers to hold small hair accessories, then hang them on a magnetic strip.

  1. Tray: Clean out a drawer to create space for a silverware or ice cube tray. The ready-made slots, sometimes in a variety of sizes, can keep bobby pins, ties and bands in one easily accessible place.
  1. Paper Towel Holder: The rung is made for paper towels, but can hold loose hair bands in one simple spot, too. On-hand or purchased cheaply, it’s a handy organizational tool.
Tip: Alternatively, you can save an empty paper towel or toilet paper roll for a small and easy hair band organizer. Decorate the tube, wrap the bands around the outside of the roll, then tuck it into a cabinet.
