Use What You Have to Decorate & Relax:

  • Add color, texture and inspiration to your home décor by using wearable items. For example, drape scarves, ribbon or jewelry around your vanity mirror.
  • Appeal to your senses with bud vases for fresh flowers, a candle or reed diffuser, a dish for chocolates and a stereo for music, news or an audio book.
  • Put up a cork or magnet board to post photos and inspiration for hair, make up or fashion ideas you want to try.
  • Keep accents useful. For example, an ornate mirrored tray or a fabric-skirted table can both be decorative and useful as home storage.
  • Consider pretty glasses or ceramic jars for holding necessities like cotton balls and swabs, and small jewelry boxes or a decorative dish for a few favorite accessories.
  • Choose artwork that fits the theme of your space, and makes you feel relaxed or inspired. Keep it simple and spare, because the focus should be on you!

Paint or Wallpaper:

  • Paint or wallpaper an accent wall behind your table to make it feel like a special and separate part of the home décor.
  • Choose a color to flatter your skin and give it a rosy hue; think peach, melon or anything with tints of pink. Try picking up a few paint samples and holding them up next to your face in front of your vanity mirror to see how the color will reflect on your skin.
  • Look for wallpaper with large repeating patterns with a feminine touch, rather than small intricate details, which may feel busy or distracting.

Make it a Dressing Room: make it a dressing room

  • Add a pretty folding screen for quick changing, and to act as a space divider. Look for an inexpensive option at thrift stores and yard sales and make it your own by covering in fabric, adding wallpaper to the panels, decoupaging scrapbook paper accents or painting the screen a complementary color.
  • Use a coat rack, clothing rack on wheels or a vintage dress form for planning out and arranging your clothes and accessories for the day.
  • Install a set of hooks in a nearby wall to hang a laundry bag, robe or pajamas.
