Tip: When choosing your lampshade, consider the room’s décor. Bright, solid hues look great in colorful spaces or as accent pieces. For a sophisticated look, go with a neutral color or muted pattern. Or add a special touch by making your own! Learn how in our article Lovely Lampshade Looks.

Instructions
    1. Use handsaw to cut your bedpost piece to size. When determining your length, keep in mind the thickness of your base and the height of your shade.
    2. Drill a 2” deep hole in one end of the bedpost.
    3. Paint or stain bedpost. Let dry completely.
    4. Set the bedpost drilled side down, then lay the base piece flat on top and attach with screws. Turn right side up.
    5. Follow the directions included with your lamp kit to install your lamp.
    6. Add the lampshade, then screw in the light bulb.
More Base Ideas
Create a beautiful base with everyday materials, then top it with a lampshade you love. Here are a few inspiring ideas:

    • For a homespun feel, use a jar as your lamp base. Keep it simple with a clear, unadorned mason jar, or add a fun twist with empty jam, salsa or sauce jars. Just be sure to clean them out first.
    • Give a vintage vase, urn or pitcher a purpose! Repurpose one you already own, or find one at your local thrift store. And if it has a few imperfections, just paint it a bright, fun color like turquoise or lemon.
    • Use charming teacups and saucers. For a sophisticated feel, stack matching sets. Or achieve a more whimsical look with mismatched pieces. We love to use teacups and saucers adorned with different floral patterns.
    • beach pail lampBrighten any room with a playful, beach-inspired lamp. Turn a metal beach pail into a lamp base or fill a clear vase with ocean objects, like seashells, sand dollars, starfish and sea glass.
