How to Paint Cabinet Doors

    To give your kitchen or bathroom a new look without spending a fortune, paint the cabinet doors. Choose a color that accents your décor, then follow these easy-by-step instructions to refresh them. Plus, learn how small strips of trim can make a big statement.

Materials
Wood cabinet doors
2” painter’s tape
Interior paint, color of your choice
Small paint roller
Roller tray
Trim molding*
Semi-Gloss trim paint, color of your choice
Paintbrush
Finishing nails
Hammer
Painter’s caulk

*Tip: Measure how much trim you’ll need. Keep in mind that it will create a frame 2” from the edge of your cabinets. Take the measurements to your local home improvement store and have them cut the trim to size for you. Be sure to request mitered edges so your pieces will fit together seamlessly.

Instructions
    1. Take down all the cabinet doors you want to paint and remove any hardware, then clean them thoroughly.
    2. Place cabinets front-side up on a clean, flat work surface. To create a 2” border, adhere a strip of painter’s tape along each edge. Repeat for all doors.
    3. Using a roller, paint the cabinets. Let dry completely before removing the tape.
    4. Paint trim molding with a paintbrush, then let dry.
    5. Lay out the trim on the door so it frames the painted portion, then attach it with finishing nails. Repeat for all doors.
    6. Fill nail holes or gaps with painter’s caulk, then let dry. Re-install any hardware you took off the doors, then hang them back up.
