    Framing adds a finished look to any room in your home, and it’s not just for pictures. Mirrors deserve a decorative border, too! And with our technique, wood trim helps reinforce any hanging, unframed mirror, limiting the likelihood of it falling down and shattering.

DIY Framed Mirror

MATERIALS
Unframed rectangular mirror
Measuring tape
4 pieces wood trim, pre-primed and mitered*
Paint, color(s) of your choice
Paintbrush
20 10d (3") finish nails
Hammer
Nail set
Acrylic painter’s caulk**

*Tip: Measure the length, width and height of your mirror to determine the length of wood trim you’ll need to purchase. Most lumberyards will create 45º mitre cuts and saw the wood trim to your specifications.

**Tip: Use acrylic rather than silicone-based caulking because it can be painted on.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Hang and mount the mirror on the wall with included hardware.
2. Paint wood trim and let dry completely.
3. Place a piece of pre-cut trim along the top edge of the mirror and attach the wood to the wall with finishing nails, but don’t go all the way in. To avoid cracking the wood trim, sink the nails with the nail set until the head of the nail rests just below the surface of the wood.
4. Repeat with the other pieces of wood until the mirror is framed.
5. Fill in all the sunken holes and mitered joints with caulking and let dry. Use extra paint for touch-ups.

Tip: Trim usually has a few grooves in it. It’s best to nail through the deepest groove, to make it easier to conceal the nail head with painter’s caulk.

Tip: Get a great clean quickly, and use Mr. Clean® Multi-Surfaces Spray Cleaner on your newly decorated mirror. It will help you remove grease, get rid of dirt and eliminate the odors in your home.
