Cheer on your favorite team with a game day party, and follow our ideas for hosting a sports-themed party. The main objective for game day parties is to keep it casual and comfortable, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring and unstylish!

By Chris Nease

  1. Cover the table with turf grass, which you can find and have cut to size at the home improvement store. Turn it into a football field by laying down white tape for yard lines.
  1. Use yellow napkins to replicate penalty flags.
  1. Serve cupcakes or desserts like marshmallow or cake pops. Display half to represent one team and the other half to represent the opposing team by decorating with tinted frosting or chocolate coating. You can even display them on either side of the table to mimic the fans.
  1. Party food is usually small and bite-sized. Turn classic stadium fare into mini appetizers like pigs in a blanket, mini pizzas, chicken wings and nachos served in small disposable containers.

Quick Tip

Febreze® Welcome guests and help eliminate odors around your home with Febreze® Air Effects®. To surround yourself with the crisp freshness of spring, try seasonal scents like Brilliant Spring Blossom, White Orchid & Bloom, Kiwi Berry Breeze and Alaskan Springtime.

  1. Set up crunchy snacks for easy munching. Serve popcorn, peanuts, chips and pretzels in paper cones, paper sacks or muffin tins.
  1. Add a fun twist to popcorn by providing a sampling station. Include both sweet and salty varieties, or let guests add their own flavorings to plain popcorn.
  1. Decorate the space using fan paraphernalia like pom-poms, foam fingers and team pennants.

Tip: Provide activities for kids and casual sports fans. Set up an area away from the festivities and set out game blankets, dominoes, playing cards and magazines.

  1. Cut a sheet cake into the shape of a football and cover with chocolate frosting. Add the football’s stitching with white decorator icing.
  1. Make small party favors for each guest to take home. Provide the same item to everyone, but package in two different colors for fans of each team.

Tip: Edible treats are great and easy to customize. Fill cellophane bags with sweet and salty trail mix or granola, and tie off using ribbon in each team’s color.
