There is a chill in the air and everyone is starting to feel that exciting holiday spirit. So what better way to celebrate the winter holiday than decorating the outdoors for the season? With these five easy ideas, you’ll be sure to spread the cheer to everyone who visits your home during this holiday season.

  1. Hanging Birdseed Pinecone Pairs: Gather a few pinecones from your yard, or purchase from your local craft store. Roll them in peanut butter and cover with birdseed (this step is especially fun for children to complete). Tie a pinecone at each end of a 12” piece of twine, then hang the pinecone pairs from low branches in your front yard for a natural, festive look.

  1. Gold or Silver Leaf Wreath: Create a beautiful metallic wreath for your front door by spray painting leaves either gold or silver. For an extra unique look, add glue to the tips of the leaves and dip into glitter.

Tip: Get more wreath assembly tips in our Welcoming Winter Holiday Wreaths article.

  1. Glitter Cranberry Garland: This holiday garland looks ordinary from far away, but get closer and it sparkles! Purchase uncooked cranberries from your local grocery store. Place half of them in a paper bowl and coat with spray adhesive (preferably outside), then sprinkle red glitter to coat. Thread cranberries on crafting wire, alternating between plain and glitter versions, then hang it in your entryway!

Quick Tip

Swiffer Messes tracked in from the garden and around indoor plants have met their match. Swiffer® WetJet® powers through up to 2X more dried-on dirt & grime with less effort* because the Extra Power pads have micro-scrubbing fibers to quickly remove stubborn messes that a mop can't always get.

  1. Holiday Ornament Wreath: Use holiday ball ornaments for more than tree décor! Untwist a wire coat hanger and mold into a round wreath shape, leaving an opening at the top. Thread the ornaments’ hooks onto the wire, and glue the balls together so they won’t fall or shift. When the hanger is full, tie the ends of the hanger together and shape into a hook.

Tip: For added security, use plastic ball ornaments instead of glass versions.

  1. Old-Fashioned Mistletoe: Mistletoe has been a traditional winter holiday staple for years. Find it at your local hardware store or tree farm and display it the old-fashioned way—tie a ribbon around the stem and hang from the front doorway.

Tip: Use our free template and fabric scraps to make your own mistletoe that can be unpacked year after year.
