Whether it’s a multi-purpose electric mixer or an elevated cooling rack, learn what tools you need to bake like a pro.

    1. Electric Mixer: Beat batters, mix dough and whip cream with this baking essential. If you bake often, a standing model is well worth the price—it saves valuable time by keeping your hands free for other tasks, like measuring ingredients. For occasional baking, a more affordable hand mixer works just as well.

Recipe Tip: For melt-in-your-mouth cookies, perfectly cream the butter and sugar in our Classic Butter Cookies with your electric mixer.

    2. Baking Sheet: Flat, un-rimmed sheets help cookies brown evenly while rimmed sheets (also called baking pans) are a must for bar cookies, shortbread and thin layer cakes. Base your purchase on which you’ll use the most, or buy both. Just remember to reduce the baking time when using dark-colored sheets.

Recipe Tip: Enjoy an out-of-the-ordinary treat when you bake our Cinnamon Cranberry Soft Pretzels on a cookie sheet.

    3. Loaf Pan: This rectangular pan gives sweet and savory breads, pound cake, bread pudding, meatloaf and more that classic loaf shape. Get the most use out of a 9x5” pan that’s 3” deep—we prefer metal pans with nonstick coating. Keep 2 or 3 on hand if you bake lots of homemade bread.

Recipe Tip: Fill your kitchen with comforting aromas by baking our Simple Rosemary Sage Bread or Zucchini Bread in a loaf pan.

    4. Parchment Paper: Skip the greasing and simply line baking sheets with parchment paper, a staple in professional bakeries. Both sides are heat-proof, moisture-resistant and nonstick, plus rolls of it cost under $3 at most grocery stores! Find it near the aluminum foil and plastic wrap or in the baking aisle.

Recipe Tip: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to keep our decadent Double Chocolate Cookies from sticking.

Quick Tip

Dawn Get amazing cleaning power at the sink with the help of Dawn® Ultra dishwashing liquid with active suds. It helps fight tough grease to get the clean dishes you're looking for, plus helps keep suds stronger for longer.

  1. Cooling Rack: To speed up the cooling process, always have a wire cooling rack within reach. The grid pattern and elevated design help air circulate, preventing soggy cookies, cakes and breads. We suggest nonstick racks and collapsible models that store easily. For baking marathons, try a multi-tiered version.

Recipe Tip: Use your wire rack to cool our fruit-forward Apricot Pine Nut Shortbread Diamonds.
