Have extra tiles from a past project, or have you been eyeing a beautiful set at your local hardware store? With our 7 simple tile crafts, you can use them to create all sorts of functional yet beautiful items.

Repurposed Tile Crafts

  1. Trivet & Coasters: Draw a design on contact paper, then cut it out with a utility knife and adhere it to a plain-colored tile piece. Spray with paint, then pull off the contact paper to reveal a beautiful shape!

Tip: Download and print one of our free trivet and coaster templates to trace onto contact paper. Also try our butterfly, bee, bird and flower templates.

Tip: Instead of contact paper and paint, cover the tiles with scraps of wallpaper, then trim the excess with your utility knife.

  1. Flowerpot: Create patterns from small pieces of tile, then attach them with tile adhesive or grout for a new, dazzling garden embellishment. Follow our simple tips for decorating your flowerpots to make them as beautiful as the flowers they contain.

Tip: Place tiles in a pillowcase, then carefully smash into smaller pieces with a hammer. Wear heavy-duty gloves when removing the tile bits.

  1. Tray: Use broken tile pieces to create a mosaic pattern on a serving tray, or cover the entire surface area with tile squares—try mixing and matching with some of our favorite hues from the color wheel.

Quick Tip

Mr. Clean Focus on creativity as you craft, and let Mr. Clean® Magic Eraser® Select-A-Size—the right size eraser for any size job—worry about clean up. The water-activated micro-scrubbers reach into surface grooves, lifting away tough soils.

  1. Wind Chime: Listen to the soothing tinkling of a whimsical wind chime hanging from your porch or backyard tree. With our instructions and a few materials, string tiled terracotta pots onto twine to create sweet instruments for the wind.
  1. Dishwasher Magnet: Paint and bake designs onto ceramic tiles with our instructions for making dishwasher magnets. Use them to let your family know when the dishes are in need of a wash or ready to be put away.

Tip: Need more ways to keep your family even more organized? Craft a Magnetic Activity & Chore List or a Weekly Menu Planner with extra tiles.

  1. Stepping Stone: Decorate concrete stepping stones for your garden with tiles of all shapes and sizes. With our easy step-by-step instructions, make it an annual family tradition, and eventually you’ll have a garden path full of memories!
  1. House Number Sign: Attach numbered tiles (or paint numbers on plain tiles with water-based paint) to a piece of reclaimed wood with clear silicone glue, and hang it by your front door, or on a mailbox post to make a house number sign.
