Use everyday road maps to make beautiful, travel-inspired artwork that adds a special touch to any wall. Plus, it makes a great gift for the explorer in your life.

Materials
  • High density foam
  • Map stencils, United States and individual state shapes
  • Permanent marker
  • Craft knife
  • Foam brush
  • Decoupage medium
  • Road maps
  • Foam glue
  • Acrylic spray sealer
  • Paintbrush
  • Stain or paint
  • Spray adhesive
  • Beadboard
  • Hanging hardware
Instructions
  1. Lay foam on a clean, flat work surface, then top with the stencils. Use a permanent marker to trace the United States and individual states onto the foam.
  2. With a craft knife, cut out the shapes.
  3. Brush shapes with decoupage medium, then arrange pieces of your road maps on the foam. Smooth down any bubbles, then brush it with another layer of decoupage medium.
  4. Attach individual states to the larger United States shape with foam glue. To seal, spray with a coat of acrylic sealer.
  5. With a paintbrush, apply stain or paint to the beadboard. After it dries, use a strong spray adhesive to attach the decoupaged foam to the beadboard.
  6. Turn over and fasten hanging hardware to the beadboard.
