Use the pages of old books to shape appealing decorations any bookworm will love. With our easy instructions for making an apple tabletop decoration and wreath made of pages, you can transform tattered books into clever creations.

Apple Shaped Book
Throw a book club party for friends and loved ones using our book club party ideas, and make an apple shaped book decoration as a festive centerpiece. We chose an apple since it’s a symbol of knowledge, but you can also create your own template to make a star, vase or teardrop shape. Once your party’s over, incorporate your versatile pieces into your home décor, or even give them away as gifts for guests!

Supplies
apple book Paperback book
Cardstock paper
Scissors
Utility knife
Paperclips
Glue gun
Thin wooden stick

Instructions
  1. Remove the cover of your paperback book.
  2. Cut out a template from thick cardstock in the shape of half an apple.
  3. Lay the template on top of your book and cut along the edge, into the book, using a utility knife. Only cut a few pages at a time, and repeat until you have completely cut out the half apple shape.
  4. Clip any uneven edges with scissors, then fan out the book. You may need to stretch the spine to get your book to fan out evenly.
  5. Use a small stick from a bush or tree to act as the stem of the apple by placing it next to the spine in the center of the apple, then glue it in place.
  6. Complete your apple by gluing the last two pages of the book together. Paperclips work great for holding the pages in place as the glue dries.
  7. Continue to play with the shape of the apple by stretching the binding to even out the pages of your apple.

Book Wreath
While so many wreaths are seasonal, create a wreath that will become a timeless piece of décor. By repurposing the pages of old books, you’ll have an accent for your door or wall that’s as interesting as it is stylish.

Supplies
book wreath Foam wreath
Books
Glue gun
Glue sticks
Ribbon/twine

Instructions
  1. Start by pulling out pages from your book. Roll a page into a tube, then crinkle the bottom of the tube and glue it to the underside of the wreath form.
  2. Repeat this step to form a circle of book pages around the base of your wreath, then flip the wreath over, flattening the portions of the pages you just glued to the wreath. You may need to place something heavy on top of the foam wreath to help the glued portion of the pages flatten out. This will allow the wreath to rest evenly against the wall when you hang it.
  3. Next, continue to roll pages into tubes, but fold the bottom of the tubes into tabs that you can glue to the wreath form. Complete a layer around the whole wreath and repeat until you have covered as much of the form as possible with this method.
  4. Glue more rolled pages to the inside of the wreath, and fill in gaps. At this stage, you can directly glue pages to other pages to fill the wreath in and give it volume.
  5. Glue a piece of ribbon or twine to the back of your wreath for hanging.

It always feels great to make something useful out of old, unused items. Have fun making your new decorations and enjoy them in your home!
