There’s no need for a florist—we’ll show you the basics for bundling together a winning bouquet, including how to choose the right flowers for the season and creative display ideas.

Begin piecing together your bouquet by learning what’s blossoming this time of year. When picking out your stems at your flower shop or garden centre, look for flowers that are vibrant, open and blemish-free, or are just about to bloom. Our seasonal favourites include:

Vintage Charm: Achieve an eclectic look by repurposing tea tins and coffee cans as vases. For big impact, fill each tin with a different flower, then elevate a few on pedestals or overturned bowls to give height and depth to your display.

Dreamy Milk Glass: This hazy-hued glass is making a comeback, and fresh flowers only add to its elegance. Look for white or pastel milk glass goblets, pitchers, egg cups, compote dishes and bud vases at your local thrift store or flea market.

Rustic Beauty: For a country farmhouse feel, display your bouquet in a galvanized metal bucket, pail or even watering can. Contrast the container’s distressed finish with a dense bunch of bright blooms, like pink tulips or purple hyacinth.
