    Shutters are an everyday material that can be used for all sorts of projects. Here, learn how to create a wall-attached side table perfect for any space, especially small rooms. Then get inspired with more ways to repurpose shutters.

Wall-Attached Side Table

Materials
Ruler
Pencil
Handsaw
Shelf bracket
Screwdriver
Screws
2 wall anchors
Piece of glass*, 1/2 the size of shutter
4 rubber furniture feet, clear

*Tip: Get glass cut to size at your local glass or hardware store. Ask for tempered glass, which is less likely to shatter. As a safety precaution, also get the corners rounded.

Instructions
    1. With a ruler, mark the center of the shutter, then use a pencil to lightly draw a line from side to side. Use a handsaw to cut the shutter in half.
    2. Hold the shutters together at a right angle, then position a decorative shelf bracket at the angle. Secure the bracket to each side with screws.
    3. Screw 2 wall anchors into the wall, then hang the table. To keep the glass from sliding, secure rubber feet to each corner of the table, then lay the piece of glass on top.
Tip: For an aged look, sand the shutters. Save time by using a sanding block.

More Ways to Use Shutters
Shutters are an inexpensive, all-purpose material perfect for decorating. Here are a few ways we love to use them in our homes:

    • Mini Screen: Paint the shutters, then use hinges to attach 4-6 of them together to create a mini screen. Use it to portion off a private pet area or hide bathroom cleaning tools, like toilet brushes and plungers.
    • Bathroom Art: Brighten a small, windowless bathroom with a set of shutters. Paint them a cheerful color, like rosy pink or soft lilac, then hang them. Give them a purpose by attaching a couple hooks to use as hand towel holders.
    • Wall Organizer: Hang a shutter or two on the wall in your kitchen, office or craft area. The slots are perfect for holding notes, photos and other bits of inspiration.
