This month, try incorporating a décor element you can reinvent as often as your style. Folding screens make for functional and decorative pieces since they can create and separate spaces. And being so versatile, they’re easy to repurpose in unique and unexpected ways. Try some of our useful decorating tricks to make the most of screens in your home.

Create New Spaces with Screens
  • painted screen room dividerDivide and conquer spaces: If you’re looking to maximize the potential area of a large space, try using screens to break up rooms into smaller sub-areas. For example, use a screen to divide one large living room into a dining room and living room.
  • Change it up with a changing area: Decorative screens are classically viewed as changing screens, which is why they work great next to a bathroom. Lay your clothes out in the changing area before your shower so you’re ready to dry off and dress in your private changing area.
  • Relax in a reading nook: Use a screen to arrange a faux wall that will shelter your reading and computer nook. Position the screen next to a wall or even in the corner of a room to create a pocketed space where you can place a reading chair and lamp.

Tip: Your nook can also be used as a makeup station. Instead of including a reading chair, just add a small vanity and stool for a place to beautify in peace.

Unique Uses for Screens

  • Create a custom faux headboard: Try positioning a decorative screen behind your bed as a headboard. With a few screws or nails, you can keep it in place as an affordable and stylish element.
  • Fold your screen into a lamp: Fold your 3-panel screen into a triangle or 4-panel screen into a square to create a tower-like piece. Simply place non-heat emitting lighting in the center of the folded screen to illuminate its design.
  • Use your screen as sun block: Sunny days can create a glare on TV and computer screens that make it difficult to enjoy entertainment. Use folding screens as décor in rooms with overbearing sunlight. On days when the sun is taking over, just reposition screens to block the sun that can seep through blinds or sheer curtains.
  • photo screen artTurn your screen into a photo display: Consider using a decorative folding screen to display your photos. For open screens, try punching holes in your photos and using a pretty ribbon to tie them to the screen’s frame. If your screen is solid, try using tacks to artfully arrange your favorite photos.

There are plenty of easy ways to add style to your home with just one piece of décor. By using decorative folding screens, you’ll be able to update your spaces in lots of different ways, any time.
