There’s nothing more relaxing than a day at the beach. Imagine the feeling of sun on your face and sand in your toes. In the spirit of summer sunshine, we’ve picked three ocean-inspired décor elements that will inspire the sensation of the seaside right in your living room.

Piece One: Sea Glass
1style 3easy beach seaglass inset Beautiful blue-green sea glass is the perfect way to add ocean colors to your décor. Smoothed over time by the elements, these frosty little slivers of bottles and other glassware lost at sea wash up onto the shore to be discovered and adored by beach lovers.

Luckily, sea glass doesn’t have to be hard to find. Reproductions are available by the bag at your local craft or home décor store. Fill a clear vase, glass bowl or old canning jar with these tiny beachcombers’ treasures. You can even add more texture by layering in sand or shells.

Use the vessel as an accent wherever you’d like to create an ocean-inspired focal point.

We suggest your fireplace mantel. It’s a great way to give purpose to a natural focal area while it’s out of use for the summer. If sea glass inspires you to add more ocean-palette colors to your space, see Color Story: Shades of Green and Color Story: Shades of Blue.

Piece Two: Palm Fronds
1style 3easy beach fronds inset Bring palm trees to you! Add a few fronds to a medium or large vase for an instant floral accent. Because palm fronds are so big and bold, they can transform an empty corner into a tropical scene all by themselves.

Just about any vase that’s sturdy enough for use on the floor will do, but we recommend one in bright white to give the feeling of sun bleached sand and boardwalks. For another way to add beach-inspired greenery, learn to make Simple Sand Scenes.

Piece Three: Coral or Shells
1style 3easy beach coral inset Coral, urchins and shells like nautilus are some of the most organic, beautiful shapes you can find in nature. If you collected them yourself, they make an extra special tribute to warm vacation memories.

Arrange a few here and there throughout your space, such as on your mantel, an end table or a shelf. Larger shells can stand alone or in a cluster. For less dimensional pieces, like sand dollars or starfish, consider encasing them in a shadowbox frame to adorn a wall. For smaller shells, layer them in an apothecary jar or include them in a sand scene.

You can even mix pieces for creative one-of-a-kind displays. Here, we’ve combined two pieces for an accent reminiscent of a recovered message in a bottle.
