Most children don’t look forward to completing chores, but we have a solution with our Magnetic Activity & Chore List. With any luck, you’ll keep your schedule organized, and your family will turn that dread into excitement when it comes to accomplishing daily tasks.

Step 1:
Download and print our designs that include visual representations of the days of the week and chores, plus activities like walking the dog, taking out the trash, soccer practice and loading the dishwasher. Print out multiple copies if you need more than one of each, and use the blank templates to fill in any extra chores or activities.

Tip: Print the designs on colored or patterned paper to keep the chart color-coded. Have each child choose their favorite color or pattern for their chore and activity magnets, or they can color in the pictures with crayons. To fill any empty spots on the chart, make colored square magnets using the blank templates.

Step 2:
Select and cut out the shapes that you need and decide if you’re going to use them magnetically or pin them on a corkboard surface.

  • Magnetic: Apply a layer of glue to the back of each cutout and attach them to a magnetic sheet (available at your local craft store).  Allow them to dry, then cut out the shapes.
  • Corkboard: Print out the template on cardstock to make the cutouts sturdier, or consider laminating them. Use pushpins to attach to the corkboard.

Tip: Use your child’s yearly school photo or get crafty and use our easy Family Silhouette instructions to make a mini silhouette of each child for each column.

Step 3:
After everything is cut out and assembled, it’s time to arrange. Place the children’s photos in a vertical column to the left, and arrange the days of the week in a horizontal row along the top. Assign chores and activities in the appropriate spot for each child, and they’re ready to complete their tasks!

Quick Tip

cascade logo Unloading the dishwasher is a common chore in the household and sometimes it can take longer if the dishes are spotty and stuck-on food remains after the dishwasher cycle. With Cascade® Complete Pacs™, residue is rinsed away and dishes are left sparkling!

Make Chores Even More Fun and Organized

  • Allow the children to have some choices in which chores they are assigned, and take turns doing different things.
  • Set a timer and make it a race!
  • Break up large tasks into smaller chunks with breaks to make it more manageable.
  • Stay on top of tasks and chores with our tips on how to stay organized year-round, with just an hour a day!
  • Create a centralized location for your family to-dos. This is also a great place to set up a Homework Station. And if you plan on arranging your chore chart on the refrigerator, first give it a thorough wipe-down with a Mr. Clean® Magic Eraser® Kitchen Scrubber.
