The blossoms and blooms of spring may still seem far away, but you can bring the beauty of the season indoors in an everlasting way. While spring flowers will eventually wilt and whither, our simple faux flower crafts offer nature-inspired home décor possibilities that will last.

Tissue Paper Cherry Blossoms
These delicate flowers bloom for a very brief time in early spring. You can enjoy them whenever you like by crafting light-as-air cherry blossoms, using our easy flower petal template and a few simple materials. Then, put your finished blossoms to use with our lovely spring home décor ideas or come up with your own!

MATERIALS
Pink and white tissue or vellum paper
Sharp craft knife
Magazine or cutting surface
Glue stick and hot glue
Real or faux stems or branches (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Print out our flower templates, then cut out and trace them onto your tissue or vellum paper (the white flower should be larger and the pink flower should be smaller). Cut out traced flowers.
  2. Use a small amount of glue stick to attach the pink flower petals on top of the white. Once dry, fold the blossom lightly from the back, lengthwise and width wise, to create a slight cone shape.
  3. If you choose to attach your blossoms to stems, use a small amount of hot glue to secure to branches or poke onto stems.
Display Ideas:

  • Attach your blossoms to delicate twigs (floral stems or real, curly willow creates a nice look) and arrange stems inside a tall vase alone or with pebbles at the bottom.
  • You can add blossoms all over a simple wreath. They can be poked onto twigs or stems and secured with a small amount of glue.
  • Scatter the blossoms alone along a buffet table or dining table as decoration for a spring celebration.
  • Use a needle and a thin wire or thread to string your blossoms together to create a pretty, festive garland.

Yarn Pom-pom Flowers
Create beautiful pom-pom flowers, perfect for adorning a bright spring wreath or making a simple table arrangement. Look for vibrant, saturated yarn colors like sunny yellow, sapphire blue and rosy pink. Use a variety of colors, just one color or mix and match—it’s up to you! Once you’ve crafted your pretty pom-poms, use our display ideas to choose a look that will fit your décor and help feed your excitement for spring.

MATERIALS
Yarn (a variety of bright spring colors)
Cardboard scraps (for template)
Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Print our pom-pom template, then cut out and trace it onto your cardboard scraps two times. Cut out the templates from the cardboard.
  2. Cut a 12” piece of yarn and place it between the two cardboard templates in a loop. This is the piece you will use to tie the pom-pom together.
  3. Hold the two pieces of cardboard together so the yarn between them doesn’t fall out. Grab your ball or skein of yarn and begin wrapping yarn around the template (as shown). Simply wrap all the way around the template over and over again. The more you wrap around, the fuller your pom-pom will be. Feel free to experiment with different amounts.
  4. Make a loose knot using the pieces of yarn from step 2.
  5. Slip your scissors between the two pieces of cardboard and cut the yarn around the outer edge of the circle. When you’re done cutting, pull the loose knot as tight as you can and tie another knot to secure.
  6. Carefully pull away the cardboard templates from your pom-pom. Simply fluff the yarn and snip longer pieces as needed to create the pom-pom shape you want.
Display Ideas:

  • Try attaching your pom-poms to a natural wreath base using floral wire or pins.
  • Pom-poms can be placed onto floral stems to create a whimsical flower arrangement. The faux stems typically come in green or brown and can be purchased online or at craft stores. They can be trimmed just like real flower stems to create a tall or short arrangement. Simply insert the floral stem into the center of your pom-poms.
  • Pom-poms can even become wearable blooms by adding a pin to the back. Use them to adorn a jacket, hat or tote bag.
