Whether you’re handing out favors at a holiday party, thanking a gracious hostess or surprising a kindhearted co-worker, a fresh-baked batch of cookies is all you need. This year, package them in unexpected ways with our easy, inspiring ideas.

Go beyond the typical metal tin with our simple, thoughtful suggestions:

    1. Kitchen Textiles: For a gift that keeps on giving, wrap baked goods in tea towels, dish towels or cloth napkins. Start by putting them in a re-sealable plastic bag, then place the bag in the center of your textile. Gather the corners at the top, then tie into a decorative knot. Consider packaging sophisticated treats like Crispy Cinnamon Sugar Palmiers this way.

    2. handmade gifts pringles can cookie holderRepurposed Containers: Turn an empty Pringles® can into a customized canister! Gently wipe the interior and exterior clean with a barely-damp cloth, then beautify the tube with contact paper, decorative tape or wide ribbon (adhere with double-sided tape). Line with tissue paper, then fill with small and sturdy cookies such as Blue Cheese and Date Biscotti Bites.

    3. Mason Jar: Package goodies in something with a fun, folksy feel. Layer sweets in a mason jar, seal, wrap the neck with natural fibers like raffia or twine and finish with a handmade gift tag. This homespun treatment works wonderfully with our Apricot Pine Nut Shortbread Diamonds.

Tip: Make your own gift tags from brown paper bags. Trace holiday cookie cutters onto the paper, then cut out. Punch a hole near an edge and secure to gift with ribbon, or use double-sided tape to turn it into a sticker tag.

    4. Paper Cones: Bring back a tradition from the Victorian times by filling decorative paper cones with petite goodies—think dainty drop cookies or Classic Butter Cookies with Vanilla Sugar. Give friends and family tissue paper-lined, cookie-filled cones as a party favor or surprise overnight visitors by hanging full cones from their doors.

    5. Clear Cellophane Instead of hiding hand-decorated sugar cookies and other colorful confections like our elegant French Macaroons in a package, why not show them off? Buy a roll of clear cellophane, wrap a piece around each cookie, twist the ends, then tie with ribbons (the final look resembles a wrapped hard candy).

    6. Basic Box Even a plain store-bought box can be spruced up in special ways. Line the box with tissue paper, then add your sweets—for a decidedly different gift, fill it with Candy Cane Truffles. Then adorn the box with a beautiful bow made from festive-hued ribbon. Our favorite color combination? A plain brown box wrapped in bold gold or sparkling silver ribbon.

    7. handmade gifts cookie giftHandcrafted Envelopes: For your next holiday get-together, slide single cookies—try our Double Chocolate Cookies—into brown lunch bags, fold over the tops, trim with scallop edger scissors and seal. Finish the look with decorative trim (try doilies) and homemade tags. Or place one cookie in the center of an 8×8″ square of tissue or wax paper, fold in the sides so the points meet at the center, then do the same for the top and bottom. Secure the flaps with a festive or monogrammed sticker.
