Get your recipe collection organized with these easy, effective tips. Chances are you'll be delighting in the joys of cooking your favorites more often.

What You’ll Need

  • Three-ring binder: It allows simple recipe organization, plus easy removal of recipes for grocery store trips, transport in the kitchen or loaning to a friend.
  • Section tabs: Label, separate and organize into categories helpful to you.*
  • Plastic page protectors: Saves recipes from absorbing cooking spills.
  • Recipes: Gather selections from magazines, family, websites and notebooks.

*Labeling Tip: Decorate the tabbed divider pages with printed, large-scale versions of our downloadable letters—for example, A for appetizers or D for desserts.

Tip: Keep extra sleeves handy to insert new recipes into your binder as they accumulate.

Organizing Recipes

  • Insert recipes into page protectors as-is, or transfer to recipe cards. Record the recipe name, book or magazine title and the page number.
  • Divide recipes into sections for entrées, vegetables, side dishes, salads, soups, desserts, appetizers and drinks.
  • Within sections, sub-divide for easier reference, such as dividing the entrées section into seafood, meats, pasta, etc. Color-code the sections, too!
  • Create a favorites section for frequently used recipes to avoid searching every time.
  • Add a holiday section full of recipes that are typically made for Thanksgiving, winter holidays and more.
  • Include recipes in more than one section. For example, keep a Spinach & Artichoke Dip recipe in the appetizers and New Year's Eve sections!

Party Tip: Invite friends over for a recipe swap, then craft your cookbooks together.

Tip: Print our ingredient guides and make a section for them, so next time you’re cooking with something new, information will be at your fingertips.

Maintaining Your Cookbook

  • Keep notes about changes you make to recipes, cost and time to prepare them.
  • Set aside a time every month to copy and incorporate new recipes into your cookbook so it doesn't become too overwhelming.
  • Keep track of tasty favorites with your own rating system—such as a scale of 1 to 5—to help you decide for future dining.

Gifting Tip: Select and copy favorite recipes, then craft a personalized cookbook with decorative paper, handwritten notes and photos of special moments you've shared with the recipient.
