Repurpose everyday objects to add a creative touch to frames. With our 4 looks, plus framing tips and suggestions, you can revamp your old frames or create new pieces perfect for displaying a variety of items.

Look One: Glass Beads

Simple, yet beautiful accents, beads can dress up any plain frame. Cover a frame border with a thin layer of tacky craft glue, set it in a shoe box, then sprinkle beads to coat. After it’s dry, paint another layer of decoupage glue over top of the beads to secure them to the frame.

Tip: This bordering effect also looks elegant with seashells, felt beads, colored sea glass or handmade felt flowers.

Look Two: Magazines

MagazinesRepurpose and roll magazine pages to make a recycled magazine frame. If you’ve admired magazine accents in specialty boutiques in the past, our simple instructions have everything you need to create unique picture frames for less.

Tip: You can also customize frames with extra magazine pages and newspapers using our decoupage crafting technique.

Look Three: Snapshot Crafts

Create a whimsical border for your photos with a snapshot frame. Our easy instructions will turn memorable photos into mementos surrounded with that oh-so-famous instant film photo border.

Tip: Scale down a few of our stencil templates—bees, birds and flowers; butterflies; winter patterns; leaves and acorns; letters; numbers—trace them onto the frame border, then cut them out to add an extra creative touch.

Look Four: Paint

It may seem simple, but that’s because it is! Dress up a frame with a simple coat of paint, whether it has a metal or fabric surface, or try adding an antique effect on a wood frame with paint remover.

Tip: Coat a frame with a layer of magnetic primer or chalkboard paint, and turn it into a canvas for expression.
